Steppingstone Scholars hosted author Lee Woodruff at The Rittenhouse Hotel on October 18, 2012. Lee discussed her new book, Those We Love Most, and took questions from the audience about her writing process and past experiences.
Yogorino Fundraiser! – October 6, 2012
Many came out to enjoy their daily dose of probiotics on October 6th. Several of our Scholars acted as “VIP servers” and 50% of the day’s proceeds and tips were donated to Steppingstone Scholars.

New Student Orientation & Senior Scholar Graduation! – June 16, 2012
Hello, goodbye and welcome home! June 16th was a wonderful family event and picnic celebrating the very best of Steppingstone…the Scholars! The day began with orientation for 36 new Scholars and their families. Rising 6th graders served as tour guides and buddies for the new Steppingstone Class of 2013. The event was also a reunion for graduated Scholars and a day of recognition for high school seniors. Each senior was presented with a certificate and “skeleton key” key-chain. Over 250 people attended including Scholars, parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, siblings, staff, program faculty and board members.
Miss Representation – May 19, 2012
Steppingstone presented a thought-provoking evening of film and conversation. We screened the documentary MISS Representation which examines dangerous images of women in the media. There was a panel discussion after the showing. The event was open to the public.
Step Into Spring 2012 – May 11, 2012
Step Into Spring 2012 returned to where it all started- The Horticulture Center in Fairmount Park for an evening of “sustainability” with locally-sourced fare provided by Stephen STARR Events. Guests dined under the stars and amid the perennials surrounding the Center’s outdoor fountains, and danced to the tunes of CTO Park Avenue!
Step Into College
Steppingstone’s annual Step Into College conference was a comprehensive day of free grade-specific workshops for 9th-12th graders at Temple University. Some of the workshops available were: an Overview of College Admissions Process; Paying for College- Federal/State Aid, Grants & Scholarships; Summer Internships and Opportunities; PSAT/SAT/ACT Test Strategies; Building Your High School Resume; and Transition to College. There also were volunteers on hand to help with resume writing and application essays. Another highlight of the program was the keynote address delivered by Dr. Leroy Nunery, Acting CEO and Superintendent of the Philadelphia School District.
Steppingstone Holiday Party
150 people – Scholars, their families and Steppingstone staff – enjoyed food, games and crafting at the annual holiday party. It was such fun to see everybody and enjoy one another’s company in a relaxed and festive environment. Happy Holidays to all our Scholars and their families!
